This Rio Grande engineered powder, mixed with distilled water, produces the needed electrolyte solution for operating the L160 ET Hydrogen casting-torch or four-torch welding systems or comparable machine. The potassium hydroxide (KOH) compound produces a more efficient chemical reaction, producing a higher output of hydrogen and oxygen.
If using a hydrogen welding system other than the ET Hydrogen casting torch system, please consult your owner's manual for the proper ratio of distilled water to electrolyte compound; mix accordingly, following all directions and safety requirements carefully, and add the solution to your machine.
To fill your casting-torch L-160 system, measure out 5-1/2 pints (2.6 liters) of demineralized (DI) water. Always measure water first and add acid (KOH powder) to the water. Add the entire jar contents (1080g KOH) to the water, and begin stirring immediately. Stir carefully and thoroughly, this reaction will generate heat. Important: DO NOT prepare the electrolyte solution inside the tank of the welding system; it MUST be prepared in a plastic or stainless steel container, then added to the tank after mixing.
• If changing from a sodium hydroxide compound to this potassium hydroxide compound, the reservoir in your hydrogen torch must be thoroughly cleaned to prevent cross-contamination.
