Description

This mosaic triplet oval cabochon features genuine opal bonded to a hard base layer for stability, then covered with a protective clear quartz cap. The cap serves as a lens, conveying the signature play of colors up and outward from the opal. In this form, the opal is ideal for rings and other jewelry designs—even those that are subject to a lot of wear and tear.

Opal is a relatively soft mineral that comprises silicon and water and is characterized by and valued for its display of flashing rainbow colors, referred to as the "play-of-color." There are many different varieties, with stone colors ranging from white or light gray to brown or red to black. While opal may be found in either sedimentary deposits or in volcanic deposits; the volcanic stones tend to be brittle and more fragile than the sedimentary stones.
