This 99.9% pure fine silver round shot casting grain is an adaptable and versatile grain that can be used for virtually any casting method as well as making ingots. The fine silver is electrolytically produced in our state-of-the-art facility and is a nominal 99.99%+ fine; the resulting metal has a consistent and enduring bright white color with a metallic luster. Casting metal, because it comes ready to melt and pour into your mold, is fast and efficient to use and, because it is professionally produced, you can count on consistent, repeatable quality and composition over time. Rio Grande experts take every precaution to ensure our silver casting grain is oxygen-free. The metal is continually kept in an oxygen-reduced atmosphere during the melting and pouring process to ensure optimum deoxidation. We have an entire division devoted to producing the finest casting grain available.
Applications: For virtually any casting method.
Composition: Our fine silver is electrolytically produced in our state-of-the-art facility. The purity of the silver is a nominal 99.99%+ fine.
Casting and Cleaning: Casting temperature should be at least 10°F above the liquidus point (somewhat hotter if the castings are intricate). Use a small amount of high-quality flux when melting. We recommend Matt’s Casting Flux™ (see riogrande.com or your Tools & Equipment catalog). For further cleaning, mechanical means are recommended.
Re-Using: If you plan to reuse fine silver castings, remove the oxides from the surface in a pickling solution and then tumble with burnishing compound to remove any remaining debris. We recommend a minimum 1:1 ratio of new grain to used silver.
