This round, untreated aquaprase cabochon presents a translucent vibrant blue-green color with a few inclusions; the intensity of the blue-green color varies from stone to stone. Its durability makes it ideal for setting in bezel mountings for use in nearly any style of jewelry. Combine aquaprase with complementary-color stones to create mixed-stone pendants, rings and bracelets, or use it alone to draw attention to the attractive blue-green color.
Aquaprase is a type of chalcedony with a desirable blue-green color that comes from the presence of chromium and nickel. Found in Africa, it was discovered in 2013 by gemologist Yianni Melas, who named it "Aquaprase", due to its strong blue-green color—'aqua' for the blue sea and 'prase' for green. These stones can range from translucent blue-green to a more baby-blue color with clouds. Some aquaprase stones are cut to include rock matrix, providing unique one-of-a-kind stones.
