The term "conflict diamonds" refers to the diamond rough used to fund violent criminal insurgencies in several African countries.
The Kimberley Accord is a compact that regulates the sale and transfer of diamond rough to prevent the human destruction that conflict
diamonds cause. Rio Grande has long asked our suppliers to provide documentation proving the safe origin of the diamonds we buy.
You can be assured every diamond you buy from Rio Grande is certified “conflict-free” by both our strict standards and the Kimberley Accord.

please note: To create settings with heavy-wall tubing, the inside diameter of the tubing must be smaller than the stone.
How To Bend Tubing
See how to bend tubing smoothly and easily without kinks to use in a variety of jewelry designs.
Anneal metal tubing so it bends more easily.
Lubricate a wire that is no more than 2/3 the inside diameter of the tube to be bent so it will be easier to remove after bending.
Insert the wire through the tubing to act as an arbor.
Gently wrap the tubing around a mandrel or other form to create the bends you want.
Allow the arbor wire to bend as the tubing bends; this will prevent the tubing from kinking.
Annealing Sterling Silver
Learn how to anneal sterling silver, recovering metal that has become work-hardened and leaving the metal more workable.
Anneal the sterling silver between 1000°F and 1200°F (537°C and 648°C).
Heat the sterling at temperature for 30 to 60 minutes to achieve a Vickers hardness of 66–76dph.
Please Note: During annealing, protect the metal against exposure to oxygen by surrounding it with nitrogen, argon or forming gas. If this isn’t possible, protect the metal by covering it with flux contained in a stainless steel pan.
Create Gemstone Settings From Tubing
Learn how to create quick and simple tube settings for round gemstones using heavy-wall tubing. Tubing is ideal for effectively creating custom tube settings, and the settings are easy to close, too, using stone setting tool sets.
Carefully measure your gemstone.
Choose a section of tubing with an outside diameter about .5mm larger than your stone. Please Note: The inside diameter of the tubing must be smaller than the stone.
Cut a length of tubing long enough to contain the depth of the stone.
File the cut edges of the tubing so they are smooth. Shape the bottom edge as needed to be in contact with your design all the way around the edge.
Solder the setting in place on your design.
Select a hart or setting bur the same size as (or slightly smaller than) the stone and cut a level seat into the tubing just deep enough to hold the stone.
Set the stone into the seat, leaving a short rim of metal above the stone.
Secure the stone by burnishing the metal in a circular motion with a highly polished punch.
