This octagon AAA-grade amethyst gemstone displays a deep saturation of dark purple color ideal for high-end designs. Use it to create elegant and simple post earrings or combine it with a variety of complementary-color stones to create more complex, multicolor designs, including necklaces, bracelets, pendants and rings. This stone shows the superior cut, color saturation and active scintillation required to be classified as a top-quality AAA-grade stone. Amethyst is the birthstone for February.

Amethyst is the best known and most valuable form of quartz. The color of natural amethyst is caused by iron or manganese compound impurities in the mineral and can range from a watercolor pale pink to a dark, almost opaque, purple. Named for the Greek word for “sober,” amethyst was believed to remedy drunkeness. As a crystal, amethyst is credited with relieving stress and promoting peace of mind.

Also sometimes called an 'emerald cut,' the octagon cut has a rectangle shape and cut corners. Its facets are concentric planes that resemble stair-steps around the circumference of the stone, above and below the girdle.
