Sealing rods serve to seal the crucible pour hole during the melt. This hollow-core graphite rod also holds and protects the thermocouple from molten metal and transfers heat quickly for faster, more accurate temperature readings. Created using isostatic pressure, a process that makes the material significantly more dense and therefore less absorptive, this R-81 sealing rod is ideal for working with white gold and high-karat yellow gold (18-karat and higher). The graphite stands up better to their solvent characteristics to deliver a longer service life when used with these metals.
