This oval lab-created white sapphire is made with corundum and offers a brilliant white clarity. Each stone has a chemical make-up identical to those found in nature. It performs at the bench just as a natural stone would. For a variety of designs, this stone is a popular, affordable and reliable choice in place of diamond, moissanite or other white gemstones. Sapphire is the birthstone for September.
The oval cut is an even, symmetrical shape but elongated. The arrangement of its facets is similar to that of a round brilliant, designed to maximize light and color.
• Care: Clean with warm, soapy water. Ultrasonic and steam cleaning are usually safe.
• This stone can usually be cast in place safely; however, the process involves a great many variables, and there is always risk of damage to the stone. For instructions and information, see Tyler Teague's article "Casting Stones in Place" below (or simply search 'casting stones in place').
• This stone is suitable for firing in place in silver PMC3 using the schedule with the lowest-temperature settings.
• Unless precisely calibrated to an exact size, gemstone sizes vary slightly. Rio allows a tolerance of +/– 0.2mm for gemstones larger than 4mm.
