This Fretz PrecisionSmith wide raising hammer features two wide faces, ideal for precise, intricate metal work, and for creating custom bezels and small vessel forms. It creates seamless forms with no thinning of the metal—perfect for hammering concave curves. Raising hammers are designed to be used with stakes; the hammer is applied to the outside of the metal, forcing it onto the stake or other form and shaping it, leaving it relatively smooth (as compared to pieces raised with narrow cross-peen hammers). Scaled-down jeweler’s hammers, PrecisionSmith hammers are intended for use with lighter metal gauges and for fine, detailed work.
Designed by master metalsmith Bill Fretz, this hammer delivers all the features of a Fretz® hammer. The face size, head as well as the weight, length and pistol-grip end of the handle are all designed to Bill Fretz’s specifications for balance, control and precision. The oil-finished handle is made of Padauk wood, known for its strength, stability and beauty; it's specially shaped to give you a light touch, and the thin neck flexes slightly as you hammer for ultimate comfort. The head is cast from 420-grade stainless steel and tool hardened to 50 HRC for maximum durability and effectiveness.
