This Fretz® concave fluting “start” stake is one of two progressively designed styles available; used in tandem, they streamline the process of adding flutes to concave metal forms. These stakes help you create, then more finely articulate, the pattern of fluting you want—and do it more cleanly and quickly than is possible using wax or pitch. Use this “start” stake, with its shallow curve and gentle angles, to form the initial flutes you want for your design. Then use the “finish” stake (available separately) to sharpen and refine the flutes. Stakes provide a surface under (or inside) the metal that enhances the work of the hammer in creating a wide variety of curves, folds and shapes. Choose stakes with surface features that allow you to create the forms you want. We suggest a cross-peen hammer to form the initial lines of the fluting. For straight flutes, choose a straight cross-peen; for curving flutes, choose a curved cross-peen.
