This Fretz® large jeweler's stretching hammer has a heavy, arched head with broad cross-peen faces. This design makes the hammer perfect for stretch-forming, an ancient technique for shaping curved forms by hammering the interior surfaces and changing the gauge of the metal. Ideal for use with heavy-gauge metals, the curved head follows the natural arc of the arm as you hammer so that a fairly deep concave surface can be easily worked against a wood form or a flat anvil. When used properly, the weight of the head, rather than the muscles in your arm and hand, drives the downward motion of this tool. The handle is made of Padauk wood, known for its strength, stability and beauty, and is oil-finished. Features a stainless tool steel wedge and head for hardness and endurance. The handle is specially shaped to give you a light touch and its neck is narrowed just a bit to flex slightly as you hammer, providing ultimate comfort.
