This Fretz® miniature fluting stake is specifically designed to define and deepen a basically outlined fluted pattern. This is one of three stakes intended to be used in progression, to streamline the process of adding flutes to domed metal forms. These stakes help you first create, then finely articulate the pattern of fluting you want—and do it more cleanly and quickly than is possible using wax or pitch. After you have introduced the basic pattern using the lining stake, use this stake to support the metal while you further define the fluted curves. Use a straight cross-peen hammer if creating straight flutes, and a curved cross-peen for curving flutes; use a light touch as you work. Then, progress to the third, extremely sharp stake to deepen and define the fluting. Once the fluted form is achieved, you can then perform any desired chasing techniques to complete the design you have in mind.
