This revolutionary Bonny Doon urethane hammer delivers hydraulic force to hand-forming metal, creating shapes in metal with far fewer strikes than a traditional hammer. The hammer has one flat face and one cross-peen face; the flat face can be unscrewed and replaced with different urethane hardnesses and shapes, making the tool highly adaptable to the job at hand. Use this hammer directly on metal surfaces, with steel stakes, or against wood, leather or other forms to shape or refine contours and for sinking or stretching the metal. The hammer is ideal for use with metalsmith stakes and dapping bowls. The face conforms to the surface being struck, spreads out across the metal, then bounces back to its original shape. This "solid/liquid" property of the polyurethane effectively makes this a hydraulic hammer, delivering force to more than 14 times the surface area as an ordinary plastic-face hammer. The head is anodized aluminum; the handle is made of tough, durable hickory. The cross-peen face is made of extra-hard 95-durometer urethane and the flat face is made of 80-durometer urethane, both are 32mm in diameter. Additional inserts for this forming hamer are available separately.
