This black onyx drop features carved flutes spiraling from point to base. The drop is vertically half-drilled for mounting on a peg and is an ideal choice for necklace and earring designs. The dark, glossy finish of onyx looks great when used alone or when paired with gold or silver findings and/or complementary-color beads in more complex designs. Use jeweler’s epoxy to secure the drop on a peg finding.
Onyx, a type of opaque chalcedony, is naturally black and is generally dyed to achieve a more uniform color—it is the most common black gemstone and is popular for creating a striking centerpiece and for adding contrast to designs that include lighter and/or more colorful stones. It is a hard stone and takes a high polish; since ancient times, onyx has been a favorite stone for carving.
