A clean, active surface is essential for excellent plating results. This solution along with Midas® acid dip prepares workpieces for plating. Use a stainless steel anode. Always follow electrocleaning with a water rinse, acid dip and a second water rinse. Mix with distilled water. Contains a caustic substance. 2 oz. dry mix; makes one quart.
Applications: Electrocleaner is designed to clean items thoroughly, leaving a chemically clean surface.
How it Works: The caustic nature of the electrocleaner cleans chemically, while the hydrogen bubbles that form on the surface perform a scrubbing action.
Workpiece Preparation: Polishing compounds must be removed from your items before you electroclean them. This can be accomplished by ultrasonic cleaning and steam cleaning. An alternative method is using an efficient degreasing compound such as Rio Rapid Cleaner and a washout brush.
Add a handling wire to the workpiece to be plated before you electroclean it. Do not touch the article with your bare hands or you will have to remove any fingerprints by electrocleaning again.
Solution Preparation: Add warm distilled or tap water to make one quart of solution.
Pour amount needed for use into Pyrex® beaker.
Heat solution to 150°F.
Attach a stainless steel anode to the positive (+)lead and immerse in solution.
Turn on rectifier. Operate at 6 to 12 volts.
Attach handling wire to the negative (–) lead, immerse workpiece and agitate.
Leave workpiece in solution for one minute.
Water-rinse workpiece, acid dip, and rinse again before continuing to next step.
