This set of Friedrich Dick key files includes an assortment of the six most commonly used file shapes with durable wood handles for a firm, comfortable grip and fast, sure access to the style you need when you need it. Whether you're filing a flat surface, shaping the inside of a ring, or widening a slot, this set of double-cut files ensures you have the file shape you need for all of your jewelry designs. This set includes five key files, one of each shape: flat, warding, round, half-round, three-square and square. A handy wallet case is included.

These files are German Cut #3, and are ideal for moderate material removal. German-cut files are graded by the number of teeth, counting teeth parallel to the long axis of the file. German cuts start coarser than Swiss and go finer, offering more increments for more precise cutting. In all cut styles, the higher the number, the finer its cut.

A double-cut file features two sets of evenly spaced teeth set in two directions, one at a slightly different angle than the other. Double-cut files are designed to cut more aggressively, maximizing the work of each stroke to remove more metal with fewer strokes. At the end of the stroke, the file should be lifted from the workpiece and repositioned for the next stroke; dragging the file backward against the metal can mar the metal and damage the teeth.

Key files are shorter in length than traditional hand files and include a handle that provides comfort and control of the file when in use. The length of a key file is measured from the tip of the file to the end of the handle. Key files are ideal for fast, efficient removal of material from the workpiece for initial shaping, for smoothing and, in finer cuts, for finishing.

Among the finest jewelers' files in the world, Friedrich Dick files are made of tough chrome/tool steel alloy and precisely machined to yield sharp corners and fine points. These files have deep-cut teeth that provide efficient, uniform stock removal and are 66–67 HRC hardness for exceptional service with minimal care.
