Use these innovative pliers to create jump rings, S-hook clasps, loops, bails and any finding requiring a smooth, even loop. Their parallel-action design ensures that your wire is gripped securely; bronze jaws help reduce potential marring of your metal. • The pliers include one fixed jaw and five interchangeable jaws (2.5, 3, 5, 7 and 8.5mm) that allow you to make just about any size finding. • The fixed lower jaw is 9.5mm in diameter.
Learn how to create jump rings, S-hook clasps, loops, bails and more with these Swanstrom parallel action bail-forming pliers. These patent-pending pliers feature a unique cross-bar, allowing the jaws to operate in parallel; the parallel-action design ensures that your metal is held securely. Bronze jaws help prevent marring of your metal. The permanent lower jaw (do not attempt to remove this jaw) remains in place as you change upper jaws as needed to perform the forming work you want to do.
Gently twist the rubber stopper cap at the end of the pliers crossbar to remove it (you should need only hand pressure to do this; using pliers or other tools could damage the crossbar).
Using the included Allen wrench, remove the screw on the upper jaw. Open the pliers and slide the jaw off.
Select the jaw size you wish to use and slide it into position; line up the jaws so they are parallel and touching (the empty area on the base of the jaw should face away from the lower jaw).
Lay the pliers on a flat surface and close them slowly until the holes line up. Reinstall the tightening screw on the upper jaw using the Allen wrench. Please Note: Both jaws need to be able to pivot at the jaw-holding screws in order to maintain the parallel action, so you don't want to over-tighten them. To set them properly, first tighten the screws just enough to prevent the pliers from opening. Then loosen each screw just enough to allow the pliers to open and close freely.
Replace the rubber stopper cap on the end of the cross-bar.
It is a good idea to apply a light lubricant on the cross bar from time to time.
Follow these clear instructions to effectively use your Swanstrom bail-forming pliers to create all kinds of rounded findings.
