How To Set Cameos and Cabochons
Here's a tip on how to set flat-backed stones such as cabochons and cameos. When setting these stones, it’s important to keep the gem level as you set the stone.
The bottom of the stone will sit in flat bezel or ledge; make sure that the setting is clean of debris and is perfectly flat and level.
Watch the stone as you adjust the prongs or bezel in case the moving metal should shift the stone.
Correct any problems right away.
Caring For Your Cabs
Learn how to provide the proper care for all of your cabochons--you will extend their life and luster for years to come. Share with customers, too, how to continue caring for their stone after the sale to keep them strong and looking beautiful.
Clean stones with hot, soapy water.
Dry stones thoroughly with a soft towel.
Some stones can be safely cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, other cannot. Some of the gemstones that are not suitable for ultrasonic cleaning are amber, coral, lapis, opal, pearl and turquoise.
Rub gemstones with a smooth, soft cloth to remove fingerprints and environmental contaminants, keeping them bright and shining.
Store stones away from intense heat and light.
How to Bezel Set Cabochons
