The term "conflict diamonds" refers to the diamond rough used to fund violent criminal insurgencies in several African countries. The Kimberley Accord is a compact that regulates the sale and transfer of diamond rough to prevent the human destruction that conflict diamonds cause. Rio Grande has long asked our suppliers to provide documentation proving the safe origin of the diamonds we buy. You can be assured every diamond you buy from Rio Grande is certified “conflict-free” by both our strict standards and the Kimberley Accord.

This sheet is made with layers of Argentium® Silver and copper, formed to present an intricate, one-sided pattern. The material used to manufacture this mokumé gane contains 52.5% Argentium® Sterling and 47.5% copper by weight/mass. The billet (unpatterned plate) is made with 21 alternating layers of these metals, finished with a thick Argentium® backing that represents about 1/4 of the overall sheet thickness. The metal content percentages may vary somewhat in the patterned sheet (and in each finished item you create) due to the swirling mokumé gane effect.
Created by Phil Baldwin of Shining Wave Metals, this mokume combines the high quality of Shining Wave products with the brilliant, tarnish-resistant qualities of Argentium. Because copper can react with skin chemistry, turning skin green, a substantial base layer of Argentium is built into each sheet to help prevent this reaction. Keep this in mind when creating bracelets, rings and other pieces that may have prolonged contact with skin. For a striking, high-contrast effect, try exposing some copper on the outer surfaces of a jewelry piece and applying a patina such as Baldwin’s Patina to the piece. The patina will stain the copper dark but will not affect the bright white silver. The result is a wood-grain look with stark, elegant contrasts among light and dark striations.
This sheet is stocked in 3" x 12" pieces; due to the cutting capabilities of the shear, minimum purchase is 1" x 1/2".
please note: The pattern on this sheet is visible only on one side, not on both sides; the bottom layer is Argentium® Silver.
